Hi everyone. I joined the group to keep informed of certain things and because I wanted to see if I could keep my ears open to accessible business applications for my iphone. Turns out I found that info out through another source. I am a rather busy person. It seems i am always doing something. And I am currently hoping to sell knitting that I make. This is a very high volume group. And nothing at all is wrong with that. I am glad I resubscribed for the brief time I did. I see that there are many people to answer newbie questions. and that is good. I also see that the group is much more friendly than it was or seemed to be anyway a couple of years back and that is also good. I have read some not all of the controversal topics in the past few days. I think what needs to be remembered is we all were new at one time. But being new doesn't mean we should be held by the hand every time we have a question. I personally believe those who were saying explore/investigate were right. The best way to help people is not to baby feed them. The best way is to teach them how to take care of themselves. In other words. You teach a person how to fish or how to use their iphone and they can do it the rest of their life on their own and they get much more out of it. If your constantly giving them easy feed answers. If you give them the fish then you are actually in the long run hurting them. Having said that however. I am not against people asking questions. That is how we learn. But unfortunately in the blindness community I see a lot more of giving people fish rather than teaching them how to catch their own fish. I am sorry but this is counterproductive. You can teach a person without being mean. And I don't think the commical answer to a person's question was mean at all. I think it was creative and if read carefully rather humorous actually. If I were a newbie to the iphone and read that carefully I would have laughed just like i laughed reading it not being a newbie. I don't think the person was trying to be mean or descending or anything in what they wrote. In fact, I think they were being funny. Anyway. I am unsubscribing from the list as soon as I send this. I wanted to wish everyone on the list well. Keep up the good work with new iphone users. And to the new iphone users. Don't give up. I have had many tell me Jessica you really should work in assistive technology. i don't have the patience really. But I say that because I do have quite a bit of computer knowledge. And with a student really willing to learn I can teach them how to fish and not hurt them in the process. This is why people insist I should do this as a job. However even with all mmy knowledge. To the new iphone users it took me a month when I got my first iphone 3gs before i began to really understand it totally. And even after I think four years now I am still learning new things. So never ever rush yourself. Enjoy the experience. Learn and have fun. And once you have mastered it. And to those who like me have mastered most thigns. Never ever forget you were in those newbie shoes at one time. REach out and help the next new iphone user. And give them the joy and knowledge of what the iphone can bring to them. And cheer them on. Encourage them. They will soon know how powerful a device they really have and how accessible. Take care everyone.
