Are you saying that turning mute on would silence the book being read? If that's what you're saying then that's incorrect. Mute doesn't effect VoiceOver which is what's being used to read the book.

You could switch the phone to Mute.  That would mute all sounds.

Does anyone know if there is any way of getting rid of the pause and
audible
chirp one gets when reading continuously and going from page to page?  I'd
love to be able to disable this, finding it distracting and somewhat
annoying.
