I'm not sure I've seen anyone say thank you messages are insulting, but
as you point out, it's a high traffic list and pointless messages that
don't add to the topic under discussion are frowned upon by the
moderators and most list members. I don't think this applies to your
message below, but rather one line messages that just say something like
"Thanks" in response to an answer to a question. Note that such a
message might be appreciated if sent off line but could be frowned upon,
even by the intended recipient, if sent out on the list.
