Hi Kay, If your file is MP3 you have 2 options right in iTunes:
First, why not just use the MP3 file, iTunes will play it just fine and if you want to designate it as an audio book, just find the file in your Music library after adding it, press "Control+I" if you are using a PC, arrow to the Options tab, tab a few times until you get to the Media Kind Combo Box and select Audio Book as the Media Kind. Tab to OK and press space or enter and your file will now show up in the Books section. Second, you can use iTunes to convert an MP3 file to a M4A file. Make sure you check in "Edit" and "Preferences" and the "General" tab that your Import CD settings are set to M4A/AAC. Now, once again, add the file to your music library, find the file and right click on it. From the context menu select "Make AAC version", this will convert the file and, of course depending on how large it is, it may take a bit of time. Please note that even if you convert it to M4A it will still show up as a music file and you would have to follow the steps I described first in order to designate it as an audio book. Lastly, if you want a good free program for the PC which converts MP3 audio books into M4B files (M4B is the iTunes audio book format) I recommend Chapter and Vers from a company called Loden Software. If you google "Chapter and Vers" you find it no problem. This program uses iTunes to do the conversion, but the nice thing is that it will also make a single audio book file out of whatever number of MP3 files you have and often if you ripped a commercial audio book CD, the book will be many MP3 files. The finished file can also be navigate with Next Chapter and Previous Chapter and by default it will use the length of the MP3 files, but if you have one large file already you can, for example, tell Chapter and Vers to insert a chapter break every 30 minutes or every 60 minutes or whatever and this way the large file has some level of navigation. I bought Switch a year ago and according to when I tried to register the newest version was told I was not eligible for the latest upgrade. When I try to convert a file I just get a 4 KB file shortcut that says it is an m4a. Kind of strange. Is there another way to convert files? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christopher Chaltain" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 12, 2013 4:37 PM Subject: Re: a switch question I think there's only one download for Switch. Here's the direct link to the Windows version http://www.nch.com.au/components/switchsetup.exe If you don't register, I think it just reverts back to the free version. According to http://www.nch.com.au/switch/kb/1405.html, M4A is supported on both the Windows and the Mac version. What problem are you seeing when trying to convert from MP3 to M4A? Also, just curious, but why are you trying to convert from a lossy format?
