IMHO their worth every dime of it and they are made for portable players.
Target sells them and you can audition a pare for yourself. They have a really
good dynamic range which gives music that live feeling people get when they
hear live music. And the older you get, the more high you lose assuming of
course you don't play your music at ear busting levels. <grin> Next time your
visiting a Target Store check them out. They are the only ones for that much
money. They do have cheaper models too that are made for portable players
including the ear buds but you can't listen to them first for obvious reasons.
The ones you can are over the ear models and are intended for listening to
music but not wile your walking around town.. As my wife says, when you put
those phones on, your in a world of your own. Yes I am dear. She likes to
relax by watching a little TV. I like to relax by listening to music so to
each their own. I do have to admit that at 65 years old I need to go into
settings and kick the treble up a little. To many years of playing live music
and being on the road. Oh well, I'd do it all over again if I were young again!

If your just after good sound and aren't looking for something with a built
in microphone, Bose makes a really grate set of over the ear phones for two
hundred. They come with both a short and a long cable with the standard 3.5 Mm
plugs which connect to a short about 2 inches long cable coming out of the left
ear cup. The cables can be connected together to make a long cable. These
phones are made for portable players as well as iPhones. The phones fold to a
compact size and come with a nice zippered case. They are light-weight and you
can wear them for hours with no discomfort or sweating. The cable that comes
out of the left ear cup is thicker and should pose no problems as it is made to
support the dead weight of all the cables. The cables act as an antenna for
use with iPods with a radio. I have both an iPhone 4 and an iPod Nano fifth
generation. The phones work well with the Nano's FM radio.

These are very good phones if your a keyboard player and your recording your
performances to a digital recorder and need to hear the balance and bass
content to get your mix just the right way.

The ear buds are very good but they aren't a match for the ear phones which
as I said are made for use with iPhones and iPads. The model numbers change
but the price remains the same and you can tell by the description if these are
the right ones because it says their made for use with iPhones and iPads and
other music players.

In my opinion, you would have to look pretty hard to find another set of
phones that offer grate comfort and even better sound.

Eric is right. The Bose headset is very comfortable, an the audio
quality is excellent. The bass isn't boomy, and the treble isn't
peaky. The set comes with medium-sized covers already mounted and
includes small and large covers. The little headphones do not
penetrate deeply into the ear canal. The complete model number for
the in-line microphone and remote version is MIE2i.
