Hi,
Spurred on by Shoshana's enquiry, I thought I would try another scan, this
time of a flyer given to me yesterday when out walking with Himself (Gorgeous
Goldendoodle, Chad) in my local town. Now, as with many of my scans, there are
Irish words, mainly, place or people's names, so the translation might be
difficult in parts. However, for those who don't have TG, but are interested to
know how good the translator is, I have decided to try another language. This
time, I thought Swedish. I know we have list members whose tongue that is.
perhaps, they could tell us how well it has done? Also, if anyone is wanting to
know about their particular language, let me know and I will give it a test run
for you.
Sandy.
The Battle to Save Our
Public Forests continues
Protest 21st May, 5.30pm, Leinster House, Dublin
Tipp Walk in the Woods Day - Sun May 26th
Assemble 1.30pm at Car Park Kilcash Village
On April 28th the Natural Resources Protection Alliance and the Woodland League
mobilised
thousands of people at Avondale in Wicklow in a tremendous display of
opposition to the sale of
Coillte harvesting rights and a major national campaign is now taking off
around the country.
The Natural Resources Protection Alliance and the Woodland League have called a
protest at the
Dàil on Tuesday May 21st at 5.30pm to intensify the pressure on the government.
As a result of these protests there are signs the government is beginning to
crumble on this issue.
In the days after the walk in Avondale, Minister for Energy and Natural
Resources, Pat Rabbitte said it was "premature to draw any conclusion" but he
believed the "mooted privatisation of Coillte
looks more unlikely every day". He also referred to the walk in Avondale, a
sign that that the
government is feeling the pressure from a growing movement of opposition to the
privatisation of
the state's forests.
However, there has been no official announcement and Minister Brendan Howlin
indicated in a recent letter that the sale will go ahead, as agreed, as part of
the Troika deal. We must therefore step up the campaign and demand a clear
commitment from the government that this sale will not
go ahead.
No other country in Europe has privatised state forestry or harvesting rights.
Privatisation of the
forests in New Zealand has led to major problems with public access and job
losses. In Sweden
part privatisation of state forestry was recently reversed and the sector taken
back into public ownership. In the UK, recent proposals for the privatisation
of state forestry were abandoned after
there was enormous public outcry.
Our forests are a key natural resource that can provide green sustainable jobs,
and help combat climate change.
The sector employs 12,000 people across the state and has the potential to
generate thousands of
jobs and a reliable source of income.
Forests also play a huge role in mitigating climate change and regulating the
temperature of the earWs'atmosph'ere. Irish forests stored 2.2 million tonnes
of carbon in 2010 alone.
The issue of selling the harvesting rights will be discussed in the Dail the
week beginning the 20th
May'and^we need to keep the pressure on by protesting, so come to the Dail to
show your opposition to the sale of our forests.
Leinster House, Dublin Tipp skogspromenad Day - sön 26 maj Montera 01:30 på Car
The Natural
I Sverige ingår
i offentlig ägo.
reglera temperaturen i earWs'atmosph'ere. Irländska skogar sparas 2,2 miljoner
ton koldioxid under 2010 ensam.
