Sometoimes I'll even have to put my iPhone in my shirt pocket even with my ear 
peace in my left ear.

  Bluetooth is extremely susceptible to being blocked or interfered. If the 
earpiece is across your body from the iPhone, your body water can delay or 
disrupt the bluetooth signal. You really need direct line of sight from the 
device to the earpiece. Bluetooth is a weak, short-range signal.

The new Plantronics M55 seems particularly bad, but another Plantronics 903 is
