When this happened, did you try to see if Voiceover was there with a headset? I don't think I ever had Voiceover quit on me to the point where I had to do a restore via iTunes to get it back as it mostly is an issue of the volume going to 0 and this seems to happen more often if you use a dock. There are different volume controls internally for the external speaker, a headset or when it is plugged in to a dock and I've seen it where Voiceover was fine when the phone was on the dock and as soon as you took it off there was nothing because Voiceover volume for the external speaker had dropped to 0. I also had this happen just the ohter day. No I didn't have the problem with the French voice grin but merely rebooted the phone. Voiceover never came back and I had to restore it using iTunes. This has happened to me more then once and I can't explain why. Not happy about it but hopefully apple will fix it even though it is quite random it does happen more often now. Also I do wish that the tripple click home would be set to voicever by default but alass its not.
