The cursor on Apple products is a vertical line between characters.
VoiceOver reads the character the cursor jumps over. The delete key
deletes the character to the left of the cursor. So, as you're moving
left to right, the delete key will delete the character just spoken.
When moving right to left, it'll delete the next character to the left
that hasn't been spoken yet.

Hi,
the cursor is located in relation to the direction you are navigating through
text. For example, if your navigating from left to right, the cursor is
located to the right of the character or word. If navigating right to left,
backwards through text, the cursor is always going to be to the left of the
character or word spoken by Voiceover.

Ok, this is sort of related to the editing discussion going on but not exactly.
I have found that when editing a text entry it is very confusing as to how the
cursor works.
If I move the cursor forward(toward the end) and press the delete button it
seems to delete the character where the cursor is. If I move backward(toward
the beginning) it seems to delete the character before the cursor.
However, it does not always seem to work this way.
Can anyone explain to me how this is supposed to work? I am getting very
frustrated trying to figure out exactly what is happening.
Thanks for any help.
