Hi Jim, I guess the iPad Mini does not come with a headset, the iPhone comes with Apple's Earpods with Microphone, the iPod Touch comes with Earpods, but cheap as Apple is, they include Earpods without microphone.
Anyhow, if you want a decent quality headset with microphone for things like Skype or maybe recording some audio memos etc. then I think the $30 or $35, not sure how much they are in the States, Earpods with Microphone are fine. I like them because they don't block out much outside noice and they fit me well. I know there are many people on the list who say they don't fit them and they don't sound good, but for voice they are just fine, the built in remote works great (Pause/Play, volume up/down, skip/rewind etc) and they are relatively inexpensive. There are of course literally hundreds of wired headsets with microphone and remote from third-party manufacturers and you can spend anywhere from probably $15 or $20 on cheap websites like Monoprice.com to $500 or even more for super high-end headsets. There are also just as many Bluetooth options, single earpieces and stereo headsets as well as Bluetooth speakers like the Jambox, Big Jambox etc. You can easily pair multiple Bluetooth headsets and/or speakers, of course you can only use one at a time.
