Hi Donald,

You are correct, by default a video call starts by using the front facing
camera. Once the call has started, you can find the video button, I believe
it is the very left button along the bottom, and then switch to the back
camera. I haven't tried this since the last update, but before you had to
tap on that very left button of the 5 buttons above the home key, then right
above in the middle the options for Back Facing, Front Facing and Off came
up.

I have often called my Mom via Skype or Facetime (she has an iPad) to ask
her to identify something or simply because I wanted to show her something.
Just yesterday I wanted to show something to my nephew who has an iPhone 5.
He was on his way driving somewhere so he pulled over and we used a 3G
connection and it worked perfectly.
One last example goes back a ways. I was walking along in the winter, took a
glove off to do something and dropped it. I had walked several steps before
I noticed it and just couldn't find it in the snow.
Nobody else was around so I called my Mom on the phone, told her to go to
her computer and then called her on Skype. I pointed my phone back the way I
had come and slowly walked back and after about 6 steps she saw my glove off
to the side and directed me to it.
Fortunately our carriers in Canada don't try to tell us that we can't use
Facetime or Skype over 3G although apparently this is or soon will be a
thing of the past in the States as well.

Subject: Question re Skype video call

I have often thought how useful it would be to make a Skype video call
to get assistance with product identification. This brings up a
question. Am I correct that when placing a Skype video call, the
iPhone's front camera would be activated? Since the rear camera is
better suited to product identification, is there some way to use it
rather than the front camera?

Thanks.
