Hi Danny, The process is fairly simply, but it does involve quite a few steps:
1. When the app opens, focus is on the "Take Photo" button. Note that tapping this will not actually take the photo, it will open the camera view and then you take the picture by tapping on the Take Picture button at the bottom right above the homekey. 2. Once the picture is taken, you have 3 buttons along the bottom above the home key. I'll list them below, they are pretty self-explanatory: Preview, Retake, Use 3. Tap the "Use" button to indicate you want to use the picture you just took. 4. On the next screen (in my opinion this screen could be skipped) you only have 2 choices once again across the bottom of the screen. On the left and almost to the middle is Cancel and from the middle to the right is Record Voice. Obviously you tap on Record Voice. Once again, this does not actually start recording, you have to tap on "Record" again on the next screen. 5. On this screen if you start at the top it says "Record Voice" which is sort of the heading/title for that screen. Swipe right once and you hear Progress, 0%. This indicates play progress after you recorded something. Swipe right again and you are now on the Record button. Double tap it and recording will start. I suggest that once focus is on the Record button that you turn off speech with a 3-finger double tap because otherwise you will hear Voiceover speaking during the recording. 6. Record your desciription or message and double tap again anywhere with one finger to stop recording. Now you can toggle speech back on with another 3-finger double tap. 7. You can swipe right once from Record and find a Play button, double tap it to listen to your recording. 8. If you swipe right from Play, you have a "create and Preview" button. If you swipe right again you find "Save/Share" and another swipe right takes you to the last button which is "Start Over". Both Create and Preview and Save/Share are dimmed if you have not recorded anything. After you recorded something the Create and Preview button can be tapped, but Save/Share is still dimmed because the photo and your recording have to be merged first which is done when you tap Create and Preview, so go ahead and double tap it. Unfortunately as soon as you do double tap on Create and Preview, there seems to be a bug which forces Voiceover to the earpiece so you have to turn the volume way up and sort of hold the phone near your ear to hear Voiceover. You can of course use a headset which might be the best work-around if you want to do quite a few pictures. Now the Save/Share button can be tapped, when you do you get the following message and choices: Congratulations, your PhotoVoice is ready! Email button Text button Share button Done button Email or text will start an email or text message with your Photovoice file already attached. Share allows you to share it on Facebook or Twitter although I noticed that after you double tap Share, the next screen displays 3 buttons which are not labeled and all 3 are read simply as "button" by Voiceover. I just tapped on each and found out that the first one is the Cancel or Back button which takes you back to the main Save/Share menu, the second is Facebook and the third and last is Twitter. You can of course label these with the custom label feature, e.g. swipe right to the last button until it goes no further, then do a 2-finger double tap and hold and label the button Twitter, then tap Save or Done. Now find Twitter and swipe left once and label this button Facebook, then swipe all the way left to the last button that isn't labeled and call it Cancel or Back. The Done choice will save your Photovoice file to the camera roll, but it will ask you "Are you sure you don't want to share this with anyone else?" and you have to tap "Yes" to tell the app that you are indeed sure you don't want to share it. I believe Dan O'Day, the developer, is on this list and I have recently exchanged a few messages regarding the Voiceover going to the earpiece issue. My suggestion would be to put Facebook and Twitter in the same menu as Email, Text and Done, you only add one item that way since Share would go away and instead you have Facebook and Twitter. I would also prefer not to be prompted if I was sure whether I wanted to save without sharing since there are enough steps and taps involved in the process. If anybody else wants to write to Dan, you can send your email to PhotoVoice Support [email protected]. After you say "Yes" to the last prompt you are returned to the main screen of the app where you can either take another picture or pick one from the camera roll. Voiceover will go back on external speaker at least on my 4S once I press the home key and exit the app. However, if I go back into the app without first removing it from the app switcher Voiceover goes straight back to the earpiece. I just heard a review on the Today in iOS Podcast about a very similar app called TalkPhoto. It sounds like it has a lot more features some of which are visual and I am not at all sure if the app is even accessible, but maybe somebody wants to burn a Buck and try it.
