Hi Casey,

Yes, what you described should work, however, just to be on the safe side I
always do encrypted backups in iTunes as well as iCloud backups. First of
all encrypted backups back up more data such as certain passwords etc. and
that means less work when setting up your new phone.

Keep in mind as well that a backup will only back up your Settings, home
screen layout etc. the actual apps are not backed up since they live in the
App Store and when you do a restore they are redownloaded. After your
restore has finished you will see a lot of apps that say "Waiting..." and
then one by one you can see the download progress. Music, ringtones and
other media is also not part of a backup, it needs to be re-synced.

Lastly, if your iPhone 4 still works, why not wait just over 2 months and
then either get the new iPhone which most likely will be announced in the
first half of September or get an iPhone 5 then because once the new iPhone
is announced, the iPhone 5 will take the place of the 4S now and you can get
it cheaper. Unless your current phone isn't working any more and you
absolutely have to get a new phone I think between now and September is the
worst time to get a new iPhone.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: A iPhone backing up to the cloud question

Hi I am ready for A phone upgrade.
Now what I would like to know is.
If I upgrade to the iPhone 5 from the 4 that I currently have.
If I have backed my iPhone 4 up to the cloud from my phone.
then got my new iPhone 5 had it set up.
then just logged in with my apple ID and password and then told it to
restore from a i cloud back up.
Will is just put all of my apps and folders back the way they are currently
on my new phone?
Or do I have to go about this differently?
As far as backing up the phone goes?
