You can get an external battery. They have all kinds of different sizes and in all kinds of price ranges. For example, I have an iGo battery. It's a 1800 mAh good for maybe 2 complete recharges. It has 2 USB ports and a flip down A/C power wall plug to recharge the battery. It's smaller then a deck of cards and you use your sync/charge cable from your device to the USB port. You can actually read the amount of charging going on in the usual way with your iPhone.
There are many other kinds. There is one that's a cylinder. It has a USB port on one end and a plug on the other with a little pull out cord that retracts back into the battery. Plug it into a USB port on a computer and your in business. Batteries get up into 10,000 mAh. I'd guess though that might be a tad bit on the large size though. A good place to go to have a look-see might be radio shack or online. I've seen prices from around 4 bucks on up to over a hundred.
