Hi Kevin,
As Hope pointed out, the app won't be able to recalculate and I would be surprised if it gave you any information once you leave your Wi-Fi, e.g. cross streets/upcoming intersection information etc. Yes, the app will happily work on Wi-Fi and since it usesNavteq which is the same map source as Navigon, the entire United States should be covered, but once you are disconnected from your Wi-Fi, your GPS position which the iPhone gets from the satellites cannot be passed on to the Sendero server where it would be compared with the maps and feedback would be returned to the phone. The Seeing Eye GPS app can retrieve its data via WI-FI. Hi. I got some extra money for my birthday, so I decided to purchase the Seeing Eye GPS app. I signed up for a one year subscription. I was planning on going to the T-Mobile store to switch to their data plan, but just out of curiosity I decided to examine the Seeing Eye app. It prompted me to set my current location as home, and I was surprised to find it knew I was near Lexington, KY, and it got my zip code right. I then set up a route to my credit union which I'll head to in about an hour. The app correctly found the location I wanted, and it started telling me where to head. I'm happy. Looks like I don't need a data plan to use the app, as long as I have WI-FI access to download local maps. I know this is somewhat limiting my use of the app, but if all goes according to Hoyle I can wait until next month to get a data plan for my iPhone. I have a trip to take Paterson, the flying dog to the Vet, and I'll enter that route into the app and see just how much of Lexington is covered by the map I got downloaded. If it covers the Lexington, Kentucky area then that's good enough for me. I know it will cover the neighborhood, but I'm curious how it will do farther away. I'll keep all of you updated. I hope to report that it works via WI-FI connections, and as long as you're at a hot spot you don't have to use your data. Now back to baseball and waiting for the credit union to open. GO REDS!
