It is different because it's much smaller. In your case the iPad Mini also has a faster processor and better backfacing camera and an upgraded Wi-Fi radio which allows you to use it on either 2.4 or 5 Ghz, but of course you would have to have a router which supports simultaneous dual band for that to be of benefit. Whether you should upgrade is something you have to decide. Is your iPad 2 working well? Does it what you want it do do? Are you unhappy with its performance or maybe the fact that it's only a 16 or 32 Gb model and you are running out of space? Do you have a Wi-Fi only iPad 2 but feel you would like one that is 3G/LTE capable so you could use data while you are away from home (this requires an additional monthly data plan subscription from your carrier)? These are all questions you have to ask yourself and then decide. Also keep in mind that there will most likely be a new iPad Mini within 3 months and possibly also another another full-size iPad upgrade.
