Mama Peach, what excellent instructions and thanks for this tutorial on
setting up Tonido. Have you considered a job writing app documentation?

I'm going to love using this app.

Use these instructions for setting up Tonido:
First and foremost, you need to download the Tonido Desktop.exe file from
the Tonido website. Be sure you choose the file that is appropriate for your

operating system. It is best to use Internet Explorer for this. If you are
wanting to access your main computer, you must install this file to that
computer. Tonido's download page is:
http://www.tonido.com/application_download.html
Once you have this file downloaded, you of course have to install it.
Once installed, you must launch the file in order to create your new account

with Tonido.
Please note that once installed, the Tonido Desktop file is set to run in
your system tray, so there is no need to activate it from the actual .exe
file, unless you have shut it off and want to turn it back on. Then simply
activate it from the icon that hopefully you told it to place on your
desktop.
Once launched, you will be prompted to create your new account.
In the first edit field, you must provide your chosen account name.
Below this is a link where you can check to make sure your chosen account
name is available to use. Check this by simply arrowing down once. It will
most likely tell you that it is available, unless of course someone else has

chosen that same name. If it is taken, shift tab and try a different account

name.
Tab once.
In this edit field, enter in your chosen account password.
Tab again.
In this edit field, reenter your chosen account password.
Tab again
In this edit field, enter in your preferred email address.
Tab again.
Make sure to check the box that says you agree to their terms and conditions
Tab again.
Click on the create button.
Look down the page to make sure it has given you your URL that you will use
for accessing your account through the internet or via a mobile device. This

URL should look like this:
http://acountname.tonidoid.com
After doing this, you can close Tonido, you are done installing Tonido!
Next, download the app from The Apple store to your iPod, iPad or iPhone, or

any other mobile device that the Tonido page says it supports.
Once downloaded, double tap the app to open it.
To add your new acount, double tap on the add button in the top left hand
corner.
There are three edit fields here.
The first edit field has a URL in it. Double tap on this edit field to edit
this URL and make sure you are at the end of the edit field.
The http:// will remain in the edit field. All you need to type into this
field is your chosen account name and then the tonidoid.com.
So it should look like this in the first edit field.
http://accountname.tonidoid.com
Then Flick to the next edit field which should now show your user name
already there. If not, double tap to activate this edit field and enter in
your account name only.
Flick to the next edit field. Double tap to activate. Enter your account
password.
Flick to the okay button and double tap to activate it.
Once this is done, you should have full access to your computer and all
external drives hooked up to your machine.
If you don't want all folders and drives to show, open the Tonido in your
system tray. Enter your password. Once the Tonido page has loaded, click on
Tools. Then click on Settings.
After clicking on Settings, shift tab once
Then arrow down until you find the buttons, which are:
General, Account, Network, Misc, Log and About.
Click on the Miscellanious button.
After clicking on the Miscellanious button, go down the page until you find
where it says:
Add allowed folder button.
Click on this button
Arrow down several times to find the edit field to type in your drive
letter.
type in something like this
G:\
H:\
i:\
j:\
or whatever drive letter you want access to along with a colon and a
backslash.
Click on the Add button
Arrow up and find where it says
Enable access to only selected folders
Make sure this is checked
Now you will have access to just the drives you added instead of your whole
entire computer.
I hope these directions have helped in some way. It seems intimidating but
it is actually very easy to set up and once set up, it is so awesome to be
able to access your own music, photos and other stuff from your iPhone,
iPod, iPad, Android, Blackberry, etc. Why load your device up with music
when you have full access to your own stuff and it won't eat up space on
your phone.

Tonido sounds like just what I would use. I'm not a huge fan of uploading a
lot of files to a cloud-based service but it would be very nice to have
mobile access to my home files. I've downloaded the Windows Tonido Lite
Desktop program but have yet to install it. Do you set up your Tonido
account with the desktop program? I could find no place to set up your
account on the Tonido website.

Thanks for any assistance.

Subject: Tonidos - Voiceover Compatible Remote Access

Hello everyone,

This Message is a cross-post because of its utility.
Tonido is an accessible and free way to move and share files, which is
voiceover compatible for Mac OS X and the iPhone.
The macintosh client resides in the menubar, but the iPhone app is where the
benefits of this app are seen.
The iPhone app recognizes my entire computer and allows me to access
external drives also.
The web site is accessible and making an account took me less than 5
minutes. The iPhone client will prompt you for the account credentials and a
specific URL, which is necessary to view your computer.
Please note that the URL is going to take the form of
http://username.tonidoid.com. This will need to be entered into the URL
section when logging into your account from the iPhone. (This URL can just
be copied from the Tonido support e-mail you will receive after an account
has been created).
If you Google "tondo" it will be the first link in the results section.

Hope this has been helpful.
