Hello, Thanks for your answers. I find that, when I enter the hyphens in the dates, they are being transformed into hyphen followed by colon. This also happens when I enter phone numbers. Af After further testing here's what I found:
If contractions are off, I cannot enter hyphens in numbers. Anything following the hyphen is treated like letters. I did reenter the number sign before the figures after the hyphen. With contractions on entering the number sign after the hyphen introduces an additional colon that confuses the format. However as you have helped me realise, with contractions on I can insert hyphens without reentering the number sign and all is well in this case. Hope this makes sense.
