Hi Don,

I somehow have a feeling that for normal operation this may not be as
critical any more, I turned it on last night and had it in my belt holster
upright and it announced upcoming cross streets just fine.

However, if you go to "Tools" and "LookAround" or "Nearby Intersections"
then the phone uses the compass together with GPS information and it
definitely matters whether you hold the phone straight up and down or if you
actually point it in the direction you are facing/walking.

I highly recommend a very inexpensive case from Monoprice.com which comes
with a belt clip. It's less than $6 and the new model even has a little
stand you can pop out if you want to stand the phone up on a table maybe for
a Facetime or Skype call. Only improvement I can think of is that the belt
clip could have a somewhat stronger spring mechanism, but maybe the newer
models are better that way. I'd buy one of the new models with the stand,
but there is a pretty good chance I will upgrade from my 4S to the new 5S
when it's available so there is no point in buying more accessories which
won't work with the new phones.
Here are the links for that case for the iPhone 4S and 5:

iPhone 4S: $5.31 if you buy 1, $5.09 if you buy 2 to 9 of them.

iPhone 5: $5.75 if you buy 1, $5.53 if you buy 2 to 9 of them.

Should the link for some reason not work, here is how to find this:

Go to www.monoprice.com
Click on the "Accessories" link
Click on the "iPhone and iPod Accessories" link
Click on the "iPhone Cases" link

This will bring up a table with a listing of all 110 cases they offer and
you will find the case easiest if you either bring up a list of the links
and type "Slide" or search for "Slide" using the Jaws Find command,
Control+Shift+F, or whatever equivalent the screenreader you might use has.
The full name of the case is this:

iPhone 4S: Slide Out Case with Belt Clip/ Stand for iPhoneR 4/ 4S
iPhone 5: Slide Out Case with Belt Clip/ Stand for iPhoneR 5

Good luck,
Sieghard

Subject: Blind square question

I just bought Blind Square last night and love it. The only thing I regret
is not buying the app sooner. The cost is now $23.95 U.S. whereas I believe
that when I first considered it, the cost was $17.95.

At any rate, I have at least one question. Although I don't recall the
specifics, I seem to recall some discussion on this list which suggested
that to get accurate info about your direction that the iPhone must be
positioned horizontally rather than vertically as it would be if one were
holding the iPhone or had it in a pouch attached to one's collar.
Please would someone refresh my memory about this as if my recollection is
correct, then I plan to purchase a holster which will hold the iPhone
horizontally as I am walking the route.

Thanks.

Don Roberts
