I read this article, and I don't see this 96% number anywhere. What does
"96% of malware is on Android" mean?
I also saw where only 30% of Android phones have security software on
them. I know this isn't an Android list, which begs the question as to
why this message is on topic for this list in the first place, but I'd
encourage Android phone users to be running security software on their
phones.
700,000 does sound like a lot, but what percentage is this of all
Android apps?
I don't think anyone disagrees that the open and fragmented nature of
the Android ecosystem makes it more vulnerable to malware. If the
Android features you don't get in the iPhone are important enough to you
to get an Android phone instead of an iPhone then you will need to be a
bit more circumspect in what you download, make sure you're running
security software and install the security patches that are available to
you. This isn't new for anyone who's been running a Windows based PC.
Note that as high as these numbers sound, the UAE downloaded the most
malware at 13% of all downloads. The US, for example, didn't make the
top of the list. This number doesn't figure in how many of these malware
downloads were captured by security software. I also think I read that
Android 4.3 contained a significant number of security improvements.
If anyone is interested or concerned about the security of Android
phones, I'd suggest clicking on the links posted to this and other
lists, and don't just read the summary in the post. I'd also suggest
reading a bit more widely and don't just base your opinion on the few
Android negative articles that get cherry picked and posted to an iPhone
list.

Yes, I love my iPhone. 96% of malware is on Android. Over 700,000 apps, wow.
