Hello Barbara and others,

Mention of this "iPhone" label came up once or twice before and I find it
very interesting since I don't have it. I just checked again by going into
one of my contacts and double tapping on the "Mobile" label which is next to
his mobile number. Here are all the labels I have in the list:

Mobile
Home
Work
Work Fax
Pager
Assistant
Car
Company Main
Radio

I bought my iPhone directly from Apple as an unlocked 4S. This is of course
not a big deal since I don't see a point in designating somebody's mobile
number as "iPhone". As Barbara says, the Messages app knows whether to send
a text message as iMessage if the other person has an iPhone and has
iMessages enabled. What if a friend has an iPhone and I label his cell
number as "iPhone", but down the road maybe he decides to switch to an
Android, Windows Phone or Blackberry, I might not even know this just as I
don't necessarily know who all in my contacts has an iPhone unless they are
close friends or family. It must be another Apple mysterie *smile*.

Regards,
Sieghard

Actually you can send iMessages to the numbers even if they're not labelled
as "iPhone". The device recognizes the iMessage-compatible numbers, provided
you're logged into wifi or mobile internet.
Still, I prefer to mark the numbers as "iPhone" if I know that the crtain
person is having one, because this way I immediately know which number to
choose for iMessage without opening the Messages app first.
Best greetings,

Barbara

HI Cliff? Yes it's possible to have two numbers; on some of my contacts,
Ihave a Cell number and a home number. You put in both numbers; afterwards
there's button for Iphone, Mobile and the like? OK those you double tap and
they change labels: to get to these lables upon double tapping, swipe
left/right and you'll Mobile, Iphone, Home etc. The different between Mobile
and Iphone as Iunderstand, is when you label as Iphone, and your contact has
an Iphone, you can send IMessage and use Facetime. Good luck!

Specifically, I'd like to include a cell and home phone. As I swipe through
the fields I see Mobile, then IPhone, the distinction escapes me, and later
there's a home, but it is for emails. At one point I was prompted to add a
label. any guidance would be appreciated.

Cliff
