That would be tough, but if the make up of the party your challenging is
right, it can be done. I wouldn't go more than a level or two higher
than you are, but as I've said before, look at the make up of the party
you're challenging and where each hero is positioned.
You can also wait until you level up and then challenge other castle's
at the same or lower level. As you move up in levels during a
tournament, you'll be able to move your heroes up in level and challenge
tougher and tougher castle's.
You may consider the following to be a spoiler, so read on at your own risk.
If I were to see a party of say:
Warlock (or maybe even Alchemist)
Ranger
Ranger
Bard
I'd challenge and make a party of something like:
Champion
Knight
Huntress
Healer
even if the party I'm challenging was a level or two higher than my own.

I love this part of the game more than I should I think. lol If you want
an edge, check out the battle parties of the people near the top of the
rankings instead of relying on auto-match. Many of them made it up there
by just continually attacking people of equal strength, which might mean
you can actually take them out if you've done a better job of leveling
up your heroes. Naturally, if you're 68th and beat the guy in 1st, you
get a lot more points than beating up the guy in 67th. I started playing
last Thursday night and placed 1st in the bronze tournament this way.
