Yeah, I was surprised to hear TheOldReader changed their tune. Based on their blog article where they announced they'd be going private, they were pretty adamant that they weren't looking for money, resources or help. They just wanted a good news reading experience and their lives back.

As late as yesterday, I was still getting 503 errors when trying to use TheOldReader with Feeddler, and I've had lots of problems the last two or three weeks getting updates and having my information synced.

I am trying inoreader now, and it seems to be a lot faster and more reliable when using it with Feeddler. The web interface seems usable with Orca and Firefox and Chrome with ChromeVox, but I'm still evaluating it.

Cristóbal, I wouldn't count The Old Reader out yet. It looks as if
their migration is complete, and its owners seem committed to helping
build a bigger team with lots of computer power. I'm using FeedHQ
more than The Old Reader, but I'm not sure which one will win out in
the long run.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I may in fact give FeedHQ a spin. It looks like the Old reader is staying
public after all, but with all the down time and other buggy issues with
synchronization being lagging at times, searching out an alternative is
something I'll look into regardless. Hopefully the various TOR issues are
behind it, but still.

I did give InoReader a try since I also heard it mentioned being a light
and
easy rss service to use and Feeddler even in its latest update provides
Inoreader support, but the webpage isn't all that accessible and even less
so with IE. Firefox is a bit better, but still generallly not useable.

In any event, thanks again for the suggestions and I'll see if FeedHQ works
for me.

Bruno Renie, the owner of FeedHQ, has been very responsive to my email
about
accessibility. I asked him to label some buttons, and he did so quite
quickly and emailed me when he had done so. The software is open source,
and the pages are quite clean when accessed via my screen reader.

not only would it have to be cross platform but the clients on the
various platforms would have to be accessible or the web page itself
would have to be accessible. FeedHQ is worth looking into, but we lost
big time when Google Reader shut down, since there were so many client
options and at least some of them were accessible. TheOldReader going
private is a pain because although it didn't have a lot of clients on
multiple platforms, the web page was usable.

Cristóbal, I wonder if FeedHQ might interest you. It may indeed be
cross-platform. It is open source and has a very accessible Web
interface. The Feeddler app supports FeedHQ accounts. True, there
is a cost: $12/year, a most reasonable fee. Also, it may well be
that The Old Reader will stay public after all. Time will tell.
FeedHQ can be found at http://www.feedhq.org.

This sure sucks…

So, since The Old Reader is going private and I like a few others on
here who signed up after the Google reader shut down announcement
aren’t going to get migrated over to their new site, it’s back on to
the hunt for a cross platform rss reader. Feedly’s still a no go
either with their iOS app or website layout. Is anyone aware of
anything else out there that’ll work on iOS and can also be accessed
through the traditional computer? My understanding is that Lire is
really just for the i-devices. That’s not what I’m looking for.

Bummer.

Thanks,
