Okay, I asked this question about six months back, and finally found the
answer. I am posting it here just in case someone else wants to know. The
question was. How do I read mobi files with my kindle app if I didn't
download them from amazon? Answer is. In iTunes, go to your devices tab,
hit the apps section, go past the list of aps that are already on your
device, of course you will need to tell iTunes that you want to sink apps.
Once you get past the table where your apps are listed, you will come to a
section that says: "the following apps enable you to transfer content
between your computer and device" There will be a add button, and the name
of the section where your content is stored on your device and in the app.
In this case it is the docs section of the kindle app. Hit the add button,
go to the location of your mobi files, add the ones you want, and it will
add them to your kindle app. Once your device is done, unplug it and check
your kindle app to make sure they showed up. This is where you go to the
documents section of the kindle, and your mobi files that you added should
be there. If some are missing, go to all, and you will see the ones that
didn't show up in the docs section, plus all other content that you bought,
imported, or downloaded. I am not suggesting in any way to break DRM's,
that is your choice. But there are a lot of websites, where you can
download free mobi files for your kindle app or device, even a program where
you can convert them to mobi format. So I am simply telling everyone how to
get these files in your kindle app. Some people do it with dropbox, and
choose the kindle app to read them with. But when you do this, it will put
them in your docs area anyway, and even keeps your place if you stop
reading. The only thing I haven't figured out how to do yet, is to sink it
across devices. Whitch probably isn't possible since these files are sinked
to your device, not to the cloud. Hope this helps someone, cause it sure
makes reading my kindle files a hwole lot easier. I am able to eliminate a
step.
