Hello List,
I just heard about a Kickstarter Project on the Today in iOS Podcast and decided to back this project as my first one ever. The short: Soundband is a stereo headset which can be used either wired or wirelessly (Bluetooth 3.0) and it completely leaves your ears open hence free to hear your environment. Soundband uses "Surface audio" to transmit sound from 86 Hz to 20,000 Hz, it is slim, has dual microphones which allow for it to be used for phone calls and any audio such as music, audio books or instructions from a GPS app and you can charge it while you use it. The headset weighs 35 grams or just shy of 1 and a quarter ounce. The project was started on July 30 and ends on September 13 (45 days). The goal of $175K was reached in 15 or 16 days and now, 30 days after it started, they have pledges of over $426K. Retail value of the headset is $189, backing started at $75 (all gone), $100 (all gone), $125 (all gone) and you can currently still back the project with a pledge of $135 and there are some more, for example, $150 gives you a headset and Soundband T-Shirt. If you are not in the US you have to add $20 for shipping. Anybody who wants to know more can check out Soundband on Kickstarter.com at the following link (go to the second heading Level 1 to start reading): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hybratech/sound-band-finally-a-headset-w ithout-speakers I have been thinking about buying an Aftershokz headset, but the reviews are very mixed and now that I discovered this alternative I decided to give it a try. It is more expensive than an Aftershokz, but I very much like the option to use it wired or wirelessly which means I can take a single headset when I travel and use it on an airplane which you are not allowed to do with a Bluetooth earpiece or headset and while nobody really knows what it will sound like, according to what I read I think it should sound much better and also be less noticeable as it sits behind the ears.
