Hi,
For us, in Israel, we have to pearchase unlocked phones. We don't have other
options.
And keep in mind that in our country the phones are far more expensive as
they are in the unlocked phones in the US.
I'm excited for the 5s also, I had the 5 until it had a very big accident
and I'm now using my parent's 4S so I have to switch. I thought about the
5C, but I will pay extra for a better phone that will serv me for a lot of
years to come.
I hope I'll be able to afford it, because I need to return them there 4S
soon!
And, another question - maybe somebuddy will know:
The iPhone 5 has 2 moddels, A1428 and A1429, which both have different LTE
bands, and the A1429 is the version that verayzen ships in the US, and the
A1428 is the version you all get with ATNT.
For us in Israel, the afficial Apple distributer cells the A1429 moddel
because this is the one we need to support LTE on our GSM networks, and some
private store cell the iPhone cheepper because they cell the A1428 and for
most people it's good because there is only one carier that supports LTE
here.
I went with the A1429.
But for the iPhone 5s, it seams that there are 7 or 8 different models, and
not 2. So which is the A1429 qquivelent?

Thanks!

Adi.

Hi Ricardo,

The advantage is that you don't have to stick with a main carrier. Here in
Canada Telus which is one of the big 3 carriers (Telus, Bell and Rogers)
also owns another provider called Koodo which is an MVNO using the exact
same network. However, I am paying $56 for unlimited nation wide calling,
unlimited texting, call display, voice mail and 2 Gb of data. The exact same
thing from Telus would cost me $85, which is $29 more a month. Over 2 years
this means I am paying $696 more, add to that the $399 for a 64 Gb iPhone
and I would pay $1,095 for a phone which I can buy for $880 (it's $30 more
in Canadian as in the States if you buy the phone outright and unlocked). On
top of that I am on a month-to-month plan with Koodo and 10% of my monthly
bill goes on a tab which at some point later I can apply against a new
phone. I have been with Koodo for almost 2 years and as I only got on this
promotion a bit into my initial contract which was about $10 more, I already
have about $150 I can use against buying a phone and I get another $150 from
Koodo against staying with them (if I left before this amount was paid back
I'd have to pay it back, but at this point I see no reason why I should
leave). If they come up ith a better promotion again this year before
Christmas I can just call them up and they will put me on it. I am sure
there must be MVNO's like that in the States where it does pay to bring your
own phone.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,

Unless you plan on switching networks in a 2 year span, how do you save
money? I'm just assuming the majority of people in the U.S. with an iPhone
are on the 4 big carriers. So, lets say I buy my phone off contract, I
don't get a discount on my bill for using my phone on any of these networks
so, where is the advantage?

since I just got the 5 a few months ago. But, for me, the only way to go is
to get an unlocked phone. Phones that are tied to a carrier are far too
restrictive, you pay a bit more for a phone that is unlocked but it's well
worth it. If you add up the cost of your monthly bill with a 2 year
contract, it's actually higher.
