Hi Marissa, I just tested this with the Messages app. I tapped Compose, then in the search field I typed "Mic" as in the first 3 letters of the first name "Michael" or "Michelle" since I have a number of people with these names in my Contacts. Easiest thing to do is to type the letters, then touch your screen a bit above the middle, you should hear a tone, now just start flicking left or right and you should be able to review the list of search results.
