Hi Jed, I don't know your setup, but hopefully you back your contacts up to iCloud or by some other method. If you don't then without intending to sound smug I can only say you should have backed them up. It's very easy nowadays to safeguard against a stolen device, a damaged device or stuff like that, all you have to do is turn on "Contacts" in your iCloud account.
