Thank you, Joseph, this is good info for a newbie. I'm thinking of
purchasing an iPod Touch, but am waiting as advised to see whether Apple
decides to upgrade. Is it wishful thinking to hope that cases and screen
protectors would fit with a newer model of product? Also, I've heard about
screen dots overlays for the iphone. My understanding is that the layout is
similar, so am wondering if one made for the Iphone is also usable on the
Ipod. Hope this makes sense.

Subject: Re: would like case recommendations for the iPod touch five
Hi Cortny,
The following is some information I composed a couple of months ago when
seeking a protective case for my iPod Touch 5th gen. Amazingly, the total
cost was about $11 for both items.
To introduce myself to the IOS world, I Purchased an iPod Touch 5th gen and
an Otterbox Defender case. I found the Otterbox case to be a bit bulky, and
pressing on the buttons took more effort than I would like. I was worried
about excessive strain on my fingertips when pressing the home button as
well as volume and sleep button, so I decided to seek out a different cover.
I absolutely love the following very sleek and very inexpensive cover which
is also available for the iPhone 5:
Clear Plain TPU Rubber Gel Case Skin Cover for New iPod Touch 5th Generation
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009PFE142/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item
The clear cover is some $4, but more importantly, it gives me full access to
all the buttons. I was very, very worried about the amount of strength I was
using to press the buttons on the Otterbox, and I didn't want to add lots of
wear and tear on this delicate device, and the $4 cover I'm recommending
prevents it all. Again, it is also available for the iPhone. Here are some
pros and cons.
Pros:
*the case is for the most part clear and see-through in color.
*All the buttons are perfectly accessible including lightning port volume
buttons, headphones slot, and sleep button on top.
*It adds about 2 millimeters in height to the glass surface in the event my
iPod falls on it's face.
*For IOS device cleaning purposes, this cover can be removed 100 times more
easily than the Otterbox.
*The case fits like a tight glove.
*the case itself allows for good grip when holding my iPod in my hand.
*Case fully wraps around the entire body of my iPod Touch including the
entire rear side, which means the shell of the iPod Touch will never make
direct contact with the floor.
*Thin cover leaves much more room for keys and such in my pants' pockets
than Otterbox.
*Case does not block speaker in any way.
*Rubbery texture of the case does a pretty good job of preventing my iPod
from sliding all over my desk when I flick back and forth on the screen with
one hand.
*The case adds very, very little thickness to the iDevice, which means you
will be able to protect your IOS device as well as show off it's sleek
high-tech thin appearance. :)
Cons:
*I wish the edge of this cover extended a bit more beyond the front face of
my iPod to protect the glass, but that is probably just me wanting to feel a
bit more protected than any actual problem with the cover. If I turn my iPod
on its glass screen face and slide it back and forth, the case raises the
iPod high enough so that the glass never touches the surface of my desk.
*Case does not have built in screen protector. One can either leave the iPod
Touch screen unprotected or simply buy a screen protector. (See suggestion
below)
I initially Purchased this cover just to experiment with different covers
all the while believing I would ultimately go back to the Otterbox, but now
having used it for a couple of months, I think this cover will stay on
permanently. By the way, I've dropped my iPod Touch twice (on rug and on
tile) and nothing has happened to it as this simple, inexpensive cover has
done it's job. I guess I'm simply conveying that if you are not going to
skydive off of planes into the Atlantic ocean, you might consider something
as simple as this inexpensive case rather than the extreme lifeproof cases.
Oh yeah, the following is the $7 clear screen protector I purchase (Also
available for the iPhone). Its highly rated and feels very strong:

Note: you will need sighted help to apply this screen protector as I was
fully gung ho to do it myself, but when I discovered that it had cut outs
for the home button and camera, I concluded there was no way I was going to
be able to successfully line up the cut outs with the camera and the home
button. (Smile).
Good luck,
Joseph

Hi,
What's the best case to get for my iPod touch 5th generation? I like the
folio style ones, but any decent case will do, I like the folio ones because
the screen isn't exposed in travel. Any suggestions would be appreciated
though.
