Actually, the verizon iphone has GSM capabilities, the only question is
whether it will allow you to use the at&t sim card, if indeed the phone
is not sim locked, it should work.

Donald,
Unfortunately it's not possible to use a Verizon phone on the AT&T
network. The two carriers use different radio technologies. Of the big
four carriers Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology for cellular
service while AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. It's not even possible to
switch the phones between the two CDMA carriers.

An acquaintance is using an iPhone 5 on Verizon. He is considering
switching to A T and T. Not sure why anyone in his right mind would
want to do that. But, be that as it may, he wants to know if the iPhone
5 will work if he merely puts an A T and T nano sim in the phone; or,
is it locked to Verizon in such a way that it won't work on A T and T.
He is not interested in an international unlock, he merely wants to
switch to A T and T. Incidentally, since the 5 came out less than a
year ago, I suspect that he is still under contract to Verizon; so that
may be an issue.
Thanks for any clarification on the phone's usability on A T and T.
