Yes, it is. Much easier than using the SiriusXm app on the computer.
Here goes what you need to do with the iPhone. First, the method, then a
couple caveats.
1. Open Sirius Xm Radio.
2. There are six buttons on the dock area of the app, although only five
are visible. They are: Categories, channels, favorites, on-demand, and
downloads. If you swipe with three fingers like you were going to a new
page, settings will be exposed.
3. If you hit categories, the different categories will show up. You can
flick up or down withy your rotor set to headings. Now, you can navigate
the different channel categories by heading. There will be pop, rock,
Hiphop/R&B, Dance/Electronic, Country, Christian,
Jazz/Blues/Standards, Classical, Family/Health, Sports, Sports
play-by-play, MLB Play-by-Play, Comedy, Howard Stern, Entertainment,
News/Public Radio, Politics, Religion, More,
Latin, Latin Sports play-by-play.
4. In each heading, you can flick right to
find the channels in that category.
5. If you choose channels, all the channels will be displayed. I think
there you can flick categories by heading. Unfortunately, the channel
numbers or titles don't show, but you can kind of tell where you are by the
song that is playing. The rock category begins with the Elvis chanel. It
goes through all the on-air offerings, then there are on-line only channels
like Dylan Theme-Time Radio, Rock Hall of Fame, some others that I can't
remember, and Tom Petty Radio. Similarly, if you look at the country
heading, below the Bluegrass Junction channel is the Folk Village and Red
White and Booze.
6. I wrote a message last week about MySxm. It is kind of accessible.
When you are playing a channel that is customizable, there is a MySxm button
right below the song title that is playing. I think it will only say My
graphic on the iPhone. If you double-tap that, there are three sliders that
you can adjust. The labels usually are to the right of the slider that you
can flick up or down. Example: 60's channel. First slider is
depth/popularity; flicking up from the 50% setting will customize it to play
more popular songs; flicking down will give you more depth or variety. The
next slider is Rock/MoTown. Flicking up for more rock songs; flick down for
more Motown soul. Third slider is Tempo, flick up for more faster songs.
On the 50's channel, the middle slider chooses more rock, or if you flick
down, more DooWop. The second slider on the 70's channel is either more
rock or more disco if you flick down; and the third slider chooses early
70's if you flick up or more later 70's if you move the percentage below
50%.\
NOTES and CAVEATS:
1. The channel numbers are not listed. You will see the song/artist
currently playing by each channel. Normally, the on-air channels are
listed first, with the internet-only ones at the end. Example: in the
pop
category, there is channel 2, channel 3, the decades channels, then there
is The Love channel just before you get to the Neil Diamond internet-only
channel, followed by the limited engagement channels. In the rock
heading, they start with Elvis's channel 19 and proceed numerically up
except that the New Pink Floyd channel (43) appears after the Bob Dylan
Theme-time Radio internet-only channel.
Note 2: I haven't been able to figure out, but I think the home
broadcast
appears first for the different MLB games.
Caveat 1: A couple times, when I wasn't playing an Xm show live, I
couldn't get the stupid thing to activate the channel categories. After
I
clicked the
Live button, it worked. But, that could be purely circumstantial.
Caveat 2: It is hard to locate the exact spot to double-tap with
Voiceover off. If for that reason alone, the SpeedDots screen protector
is well worth
the $7 bucks. I can activate the category view using the methodology
above usually on the first try now.
Caveat 3: Double-tapping the song artist/title in any of the categories
when you have the channel category view switches to that station. The
display continues to show all the other channels, so it is a nice way to
be able to scan for songs or just to keep up with the artist/title info
on
your favorite channel.
I posted this on the sirius xm accessibility list. Not sure how many here
besides Rich and myself use the Sirius XM app on the iPhone, but if you do,
I
just wanted to report that it is pretty accessible.
Near the top of the screen is a graphic that says My. Double-tapping that
brings up a list of preferences for the channel you're currently listening
to.
Not all channels have preferences, though.
On the 60's channel, and the other four channels I checked, though, you have
choices:
On all of the channels that have mysxm capability, the first box you get to
is Depth / Popularity. This is a box you flick up or down to adjust.
Higher
values give more popular songs, lower values give more depth i.e. variety.
On the 60's channel, the next box is Rock / Soul: The next flickable box
determines the mix between rock and soul. A higher value is more rock, a
lower
value is more MoTown. On the 50's channel it is more or less DooWop, on the
70's channel it is more Rock on a higher setting or more disco if you lower
the setting. On Willy's Roadhouse, it is a regional box that gives you more
Texas swing or less Texas swing.
On the 50's and 60's channel, The third box is a tempo box. I didn't play
with this but a lower value will give more slower songs, a higher value
gives
livelier songs. On the 70's channel, it is an era select box, where a lower
setting plays more early 70's songs and a higher setting plays more late
70's
1975-79 songs.
There are different preferences for a lot of the other channels, i.e.
Fifties on 5, 70's on 7, classic vinyl etc. They will have different
options. Typically,
the option to the left of the flickable box is what you will get with a
higher value, and the option to the right is what preference you would
select if you flick the value to a lower amount.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Subject: SiriusXM App & iOS
Is it possible for totally blind users of the iPhone to navigate the iOS
app using VoiceOver? If so, how?
