I haven't tried this so I'm throwing it out there for everyone else. If you
set the IOS timer to stop playing when the timer is done, what if you want
to use the timer for something else and you're not listening to anything?
Do you have to go back and change it back to playing a sound or will it do
that automaticly?

I wish they would just put a sleep timer into the app like so many others
have done.

There is no sleep timer in the BARD app. You can use the clock app that
comes with IOS though. It's now accessible through the control center.
Just select the stop playing option for the when timer ends setting.
It's at the bottom of the list after all of the alarm tones.
