Hi John, iTunes Match "matches" your music library to what Apple has and any songs you have and which are found in iTunes you have access to from the cloud. If you have music that is not found, e.g. maybe you have a CD from some small local band which is not available from iTunes, then these songs are uploaded to your iCloud, but they don't count against your 5 Gb free space. If you have songs ripped at lower than 256 Kbps (iTunes Plus quality) you automatically get the better quality iTunes songs. Basically all your music is in the cloud and is available to youto stream or download to your device. If you were travelling and maybe you are in a country where you won't have access to data, then you would want to make sure you download the music you want to your device. People who have a smaller iPhone like and 8 or 16 Gb can have access to a large library without having to use up all the space on their device. I believe there is a 25,000 song limit, though. As Isaac already pointed out, in the US the service is $24.99 a year and now with iTunes Radio this also gets you ad-free iTunes Radio service. I have never subscribed to this yet because I have about 26 Gb of music and a 64 Gb iPhone so for me it's not a big deal to have all my 4,000 or so songs on my phone. Most of it I bought when I was younger, now given the vast offering of free music online from sites like 181.fm and so on I rarely buy any music any more and my library is almost not growing any more. I find audio books much more entertaining than music so I rather spend my money on Audible.
