Carol, I have an iPhone 5 and use YouVersion as one of my Bible apps. I can still selelct text for email or whatever. I double tap on the word of the verse and not the verse number. So for instance, John 1:1 you will see the number one on a line. Then you swipe to the right, and the Scripture will begin reading. That's where I double-tap with one finger. This allows me to select the verse(s) Let me know if this is helpful.
