You can also use a ';' (semi-colon) instead of a ',' (comma) to get a wait instead of a pause. Here's more about entering extensions into your contact list http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971500

Hi Liz,

If this is somebody in your contacts you can add a comma "," after the
number and then put the numbers for the extension. If you dial that contact
a pause is inserted after dialing the number and then the extension is
dialed, if you need a longer pause you can insert 2 commas.

Otherwise the way to dial an extension is to just practice and dial it on
the keypad as you would on a normal phone.
I find it helps to use touch typing and it probably does work better with a
headset because it's easier to hear what you are dialing as well as any
prompts from the system.
As I said, this should be something most people can get better at with
practice, I say "most" because I do understand that possibly somebody with
motor/coordination problems could have a problem that is not solved by
practice.

If orientation is your issue you might want to consider a tactile screen
protector which gives you a dot where the 5 is on the keypad.

Sieghard

Subject: Using Siri to call phone numbers with extensions.

I am wondering if Siri can dial a phone number such as a number to a company
plus an extension to a particular person that I need to talk to in the
company? I find that when using my Iphone if I need to dial an extension
that sometimes I'm not fast enough, and it does not work. If Siri can't do
this, what is the correct way to dial an extension with the Iphone?
