Yes you are able to listen to bard books with the iPhone locked

Hi All,
Is it possible to listen to a book with the Bard app while the iPhone
screen is locked? Whenever I am listening and I lock the screen, play
immediately stops which seems odd since it's possible to listen to
other things like music and audible books with the phone locked. Is
this just how the app works or is there a setting I'm missing?
