If you want to turn the alarm off for good don't tap Snooze, just swipe right one more time and unlock your phone, this will stop the alarm. I guess Apple assumes that if you are awake enough to do that you don't need Snooze any more.

If I swipe on the snooze count down, it unlocks and takes me to the alarms screen, but still it'd be counting down in the background and after the 9 minutes end, the alarm would fire again!
