I eventually took the plunge and when I initiated the update process 7.0.3 came up automatically. So I guess I had nothing to worry about.
Of course, during the middle of my phone being updated, iTunes crapped out on me and I had to kill the application and restart it. When it came up again, I got the message that I had to completely restore my phone. Oh joy… I had to go through the whole process of setting it up as if it were brand new and out of the box. Thank goodness for encrypted updates for sure. I didn’t upgrade to 7.0.2 and now when I try to go through the process via my computer and iTunes or even directly through the phone itself, I’m only presented with the option of upgrading to iOS 7.0.2. I’d of course rather not have to go through this process twice, but since the 7.0.3 isn’t showing up for me, I’m wondering if I just need to be patient for it to finally show up on either the device or on iTunes or what. Are any other iOS 7.0 hold outs also experiencing this 7.0.2 step? I’ve got an iPad 2 still on iOS 6.1.3, but it’s mainly used by my wife and since she doesn’t’ care at all for the new interface, I’ll worry about that device later.
