The 3-finger quadruple tap is fantastic and it works very well. I even

it on a larger segment of text, maybe 2 or 3 lines, and it worked. 2
things,
though:
1. You can't use the 3-finger quadruple tap to paste the text, once you
copied the text this way and go to an edit field where you want to paste
it,
you have to turn the rotor to Edit and select Paste. Not a big deal, but

thought I point it out.
2. If you copy a phone number in an email, where Voiceover will, for
example
say this:
450-222-3333 phone number detected
If you use the 3-finger quadruple tap and paste it you also get the text
"phone number detected" at the end of the number.
Same applies if it says "link" after a link, you will get the word "link"
added at the end.
It really does copy the last spoken text even if this includes something
that is not actually there. But it still is a very useful feature.

I had an occasion to use the pinch gesture not long ago, and though it
took
a few times to get the gesture working right, it really did work.
However, in iOS 7 there is a new gesture of the 3 finger quadruple tap to
copy the last spoken text, and again on another edit field to paste that
text. I haven't used this yet, but it seems to be easier than pinching.

Here's how you do it, so you can have text to follow as well. Be
warned, though, that the select/de-select gestures can be very
challenging. In fact, I've used iOS for almost three years, and I
still can't do it right most of the time.
1. In a text field, or anywhere you can highlight text, move to the
start of the text you want to select, by any means (double tap an
editing text field to jump to the start, move with the rotor,
whatever you want).
2. Move the rotor to the text item by which you want to select. That
is, if you rotor to words, you will select by word.
3. Pinch in with two fingers. Every successful pinch will select one
rotor item. So, if you are still set to words, each pinch will
highlight one word.
4. If you select too much, just pinch out to de-select by the current
rotor item. You may change rotor items in the midst of a selection,
so you could start by line and then choose words to select part of a
line.
5. Once you have selected the text you want, rotor to "edit", then
flick up or down until you find the item you want (copy or cut) and
double tap.
You
can also hit delete on the keyboard, or just start typing to replace
the selected text.
