You can also go into Settings -> General -> Pass code and set the time
interval after which the pass code will be required. I've got mine set
to 5 minutes, so if I unlock my phone less than five minutes after it
was locked, I don't need a pass code. Between this and hand writing
mode, I don't find entering the pass code to be annoying enough for me
to turn it off altogether.
