Face time lets you communicate with other iPhone, iPad etc users over WI-FI
with both audio and video. It at first glance may seem useless for a blind
person, but it can be useful. For example, if you have a sighted friend
handy, and want to know what this is, you can hold the item up so your
friend can see it with your phone's camera. Your friend can then say
something like Cyman, that's a can of pork and beans etc. It's just another
tool.
