Hello Netatmo users,

I just received a message from Carlos, the main developer for Netatmo. I had
asked him about the fact that my second indoor module always displays "0 Db"
for sound. I wanted to know if this was because of a broken module or if the
sound level reading was simply not available on these secondary indoor
modules.

As it turns out it is the latter, you can read the explanation Carlos gave
me below along with some other information.

For people in Europe there are good news regarding the availability of
connected thermostats. Netatmo has released a connected thermostat which is
currently available in France. In 2014 Netatmo is planning to release this
in other European countries, anybody who is interested can sign up for their
newsletter at www.netatmo.com and they will be notified when it's available
in other countries.

Netatmo is not planning to release this thermostat in North America at this
point, but then again we already have other options here.

I have written to Carlos and asked him if they made the app for the
thermostat accessible and he said that it currently is not, but that just as
with the Netatmo Weather Station app, they are planning to make it
accessible.

Here now is what Carlos wrote:

Hi Sieghard,

Additional indoor modules don't measure sound level. This is due to the
fact that they run on battery power. If they did, battery life would be too
short. Your point makes me think that the fact that sound level is not
available for additional modules is not clear enough for visually impaired
users. We will change 0db to something like "unavailable on additional
modules" on Voiceover

Regarding the 3.5 inch screen issue, it will be solved on a release of the
app due early january. With 4 inch phones like 5s it should work with the
current version of the app.

The rain sensor is ready for production and will be launched before the end
of the first quarter 2014.

FYI, we've launched a connected thermostat in Europe. There are no plans to
support US/Canada installations.

Thanks for your support.

Regards

Carlos

Hello Carlos,

I had a question I have been meaning to ask. Is the second indoor module I
have supposed to measure sound level? My kitchen module usually shows 36 or
37 Db if nothing at all is going on, no talking, no music etc. Just now I
checked and it showed 57 Db because I was just in the kitchen with 2 people,
we talked, I used the microwave etc. My second indoor module which currently
is in my bedroom always show 0 Db no matter if it's perfectly quiet or if I
have the music blasting on my in-ceiling speakers. Just curious because it
shows 0 Db, but it never changes.

What else is new? Do you have a timeline when you'll have a rain sensor? I
guess for me that doesn't matter so much until next April because where I
live most of what comes down between November and the end of March is snow J

Hope you are well, best regards,

Sieghard
