Yes, VDR will decompress it automatically, and a zip file lets it keep all
the files that are part of the book together. It is hard to import a folder,
so a zip file is the best way to do it. The app has a manual that explains
everything in detail - it is the help file you'll see when you open the app.

Read2Go has only two voices but costs twice as much. Voice Dream
Reader is $10, not $20, and offers dozens of voices to choose from for $2 to
$4 each. It can read pretty much anything, even mp3 or daisy audio books,
and you can download right from Bookshare, Instapaper, Dropbox, and other
sources. To get a book into the app, just download it in the app with
Bookshare, or put the file you have in Dropbox and import it that way (zip
it up first if it is not). You can use iTunes to transfer files to VDR, but
that is the most complicated method, I think.
