It’s another way to find an app that you want to launch. Many of us have perhaps hundreds of apps, and it can take time to find one if you do not recall which screen it’s on, or which folder it’s in.

This is the same double tap and hold you do in order to move apps, but instead of waiting until you hear Voiceover say “Moving” followed by the name of whatever app you are on, you flick down immediately after the triple tone. This is a very easy and cool way to get to Spotlight search because you can do it from any home screen. You do, however, have to be on a home screen, it does not work if you are inside a folder or if focus is on an app that is in your dock. If you want to get out of Spotlight search you can either press the home key, do the scrub/back gesture or double tap on the area of the screen where Voiceover says “Dismiss Search”. That is the entire upper/middle part of the screen, only on the lower part you have the virtual keyboard and above that the search field.
