iPhone and iPad use the same voltage as standard on usb outlets; the available ampage may differ, but voltage is standard. The device will take as long as it takes and cut off when done. You can disconnect any device at any time. I just got around this when 3 items were all dead together, so found an 8-outlet powerstrip on a 1Metre lead, and plugged all the necessary ac adapters into that and charged them all at once, and took them off one by one as they were done.
