I just discovered that I could set up the iPad with my husband's email
address for Facetime and also for messages. The iPad shares an Apple ID with
my iPhone so that all the contacts, reminders, and calendars are shared but
I did not want my messages to go to both gadgets. I discovered that in
settings on the iPad I could put in my husband's email as the selected
choice for both Facetime and messages.
I tested it out and he can now text to any iDevice. I can text him by
choosing his email from the contacts that pop up when entering a name in the
messages app.
For Facetime I could not figure out how to do it until I had him call my
iPhone from his iPad. Then when I tapped the call in the recent list it
went to his iPad and not to his cell phone.
I just double-checked and by choosing info for the incoming Facetime call
from the iPad i could add his email address to the favorites list as
Facetime call.
By the way it was not necessary to use iCloud at all. The email that is on
the iPad to get Facetime calls and iMessages is just a regular gmail.
HTH,
Sherrie

Subject: Face time video calling
My wife who has a fifth generation iPod wants to make video face time
calls to her sister who has a second generation iPad. I know there are
some things on both the iPod and iPad which have to be set up for this
to work. I would therefore appreciate someone outlining these steps for
me.
I should also mention that my sister-in-law's iPad is wifi only. So, am
I correct in assuming that the telephone number to use would be her
regular cellular number?
Thanks.
