Hi Jan, I bought the Apple Smart case for my iPad Mini. The back of the case completely encloses the iPad, and the front folds over the screen.
When you close the front flap, it turns the iPad lock screen on. There are cut outs for buttons, etc. This is not a case that is like armor, so, if you need a lot of protection for your iPad Mini I would look at something else. I’m not carrying my iPad Mini everywhere, so this case is sufficient for my needs.
