Hi, I use the BeatBox, which one can obtain from SpeedDots. the dimensions are approximately 3inches. Although I don't have an iPad, I do use it with my ipHone and MacBook air. On the top face, there is a large round button to play/puase, and an up/down button for the volume controls and a right/left button to go back or to the next tract. The only downside with the speaker is that there is no indicator spoken for the battery level. I have been using it for a while and the sound is equal to the JamBox, but the price is about 1/2 of it. On the SpeedDots web page, you can sample the BeatBox performance. HTH.
