I think somebody suggested this already, but did you remove all apps from the app switcher, then push and hold the power button until you get the message to double tap to power off. Turn the phone off, wait about 30 seconds and then turn it on again. Now try Audible. I have had no issues with Audible, but sometimes when things get strange a reboot usually fixes it.
