On closer examination of the settings, you were completely right. It seems
I hadn't set it up properly when initially installing.

Check the Facebook settings to be sure you are actually logged in.
Sometimes, you get logged out without being notified you were.

You have to have the account recognized on the iPhone in settings under
Facebook I believe.
